Gosh, I really don’t like William Faulkner’s writing. I’ve never liked it, and it was such a let down the first time I read his stuff. Well, that’s not true. It was more like when I read The Sound And The Fury . I was confused (when I read it) and I hated it. Then, when I saw a picture of Ernest Hemingway on tumblr with the words: Poor Faulkner, does he really think big words cause big emotions? I laughed. I’m not 100% sure I got all the quote perfectly right, but that was damn close to what he said in response to Faulkner saying Hemingway ‘has never been known to use a word that sends a reader running to the dictionary.’ I thought the whole response to that kind of jab was clever. We can’t like all writers, we can’t like everyone’s writing, and we can’t like all people.
