Looking at the sites to submit manuscripts to is a bit daunting, and yet it’s interesting in some kind of smug way. I was just looking at a site, and it makes sense to read what others have submitted to familiarize yourself with what type of work the magazine/publication publishes, but this one in particular listen the type of ‘experimental’ style they look for in their submissions. I found it funny. That’s it. It was just plain old funny to me. ‘Experimental’…what the hell does that mean? Writing is an experiment. Life is an experiment. They would have done better with just “we want writing similar to x, x, and x.” I don’t know. I wanted to laugh, literally, but I’ll see what I got for them, and another rejection may follow. Oh well. All writers and writing isn’t for everyone. That’s a beautiful thing about writing and literature. Kurt Vonnegut (whose writing I love) said you should write a book as if you’re writing it for one person (something like that), and I love that quote. I’m sure it’s on the site somewhere.
