On to reading more poetry tonight, trying to hone some skill and develop a craft for one of the most artful forms of literature. You’ve got prose poetry, and other definitive types of poetry, yet poetry is diverse like that and amorphous really. There aren’t many rules if there are any at all. It’s a quirky and beautiful thing and it’s something I didn’t really have a taste or respect for for a long time. I guess I developed a respect for it after watching that Howl film. I think I posted about the quote the character said while in the courtroom (as one of the ‘experts’ on literature). He was talking about not being able to translate poetry into prose–that’s what makes it poetry. He said something like that, and it was beautiful and I think right then I wanted to get more into poetry. Wherever the influence and inspiration comes from for you to write, get it. Make it personal. Let it scream out of you. Writing this is making me like that film even more.
