Trying to work on my stripped down technique of prose is difficult at this point, but I’m trying to make it work. I don’t want to call it minimalism though. I want to set myself apart. I think that when I was first learning to write fiction, I had this notion that the writer was supposed to use flowery language, perhaps like some Victorian English writer (not that there’s anything wrong with that type of writing). Kurt Vonnegut said that you should write like you’re writing for one person with respect to expressing your ideas. I like that idea.
I like to keep my descriptions short and simple and use only what I think is required. If it’s something more complex, the description, I think, should take a bit more time, caution, and unraveling. This is a process and I’m young in my writing.
